FAQs

Where will camp be held?

Camp will be held on the turf soccer field at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland (6400 Rock Spring Dr, Bethesda, MD 20817).

Which weeks will camp be held in 2023?

Camp will only be held for one week in 2023 (the week of June 20th).

How does the buddy system work?

At the beginning of the camp week, each camper will be paired with a player from Bethesda Soccer Club, one of the nation’s foremost elite youth soccer clubs. These trained volunteers will not only guide their buddies through games and drills, but also look out for and develop a relationship with their buddies to ensure that each and every camper has a great time at camp.

What does a typical camp day consist of?

A typical camp day will run just under two hours and will consist of fun games like blob tag, red light green light, and cone bowling as well as drills which encourage the development of specific soccer skills. All camp instruction will be directed by our excellent coaches, Nancy and Jeff Rohrman.

What precautions will be taken to mitigate COVID-19 concerns?

All campers, volunteers, and other camp staff will be required to provide proof of vaccination in advance of the camp week. Further, all volunteers and camp staff will be required to record a negative COVID test no more than five days before the start of the camp week.

Does my child need to have previous soccer experience to participate in camp?

No, all skill levels are welcome, even campers with no experience at all! Our strong staff-to-camper ratio allows us to provide personalized instruction for each and every camper, regardless of their skill level.

How old must my child be to attend camp?

BSC Buddy Camp is for children aged 8 to 18 years old.

How much will the camp cost?

Thanks to the support of our sponsors, camp is completely free!

How do I register my child for camp?

To register, simply complete the registration form and attach your completed Waiver and Registration Form PDFs. Since BSC Buddy Camp is free to all campers, no payment is necessary!

What does my child need to bring with them to camp? What will be provided?

Athletic clothing, sunscreen, and lots of energy! Thanks to the generous support of Bethesda Soccer Club, soccer balls and all other necessary equipment will be provided by the camp. Shaded tents, water jugs, and cups will also be available, but campers are welcome to bring their own water bottles.

Is this a drop off / pick up program?

No, this is not a drop off / pick up program. We require that a parent or guardian remain on site for the duration of each two hour camp day.

What is the Friday ceremony?

On the last day of camp, each camper and volunteer will receive a camp t-shirt and the coaches will end the session about an hour early. Following the abbreviated session, we will hold a ceremony in which the coaches will commend the campers on their soccer skill development and present each camper with a medal and a certificate. The camp day will conclude with a “pizza party" which will accommodate camper dietary restrictions.
